Kane County Farmers Markets Opening
Many farmers markets in Kane County and across Illinois are reopening in June with new systems in place to offer the same fresh, local foods in a safe environment
As essential businesses, many farmers markets in Kane County will be reopening this June. These markets are an important way for many communities to access fresh produce. Each market will follow procedures to ensure that all customers remain safe while shopping and interacting with producers.
According to Janie Maxwell, Executive Director of the Illinois Farmers Market Association, “This season, Illinois farmers’ markets are transitioning from community gathering spaces to transaction-based, in-and-out food-based markets. Great local food products are available, and maybe now more than ever, local producers and vendors need our support to buy their products. There are so many reasons to shop farmers markets: economic benefit to the producers and community, the amazing taste, freshness, nutritional value. And, during COVID-19, shop knowing the food comes from a shorter supply chain, with fewer hands and touches.”
Some markets may have special hours available for customers that are considered high-risk for Covid-19, such as seniors and pregnant women.
